What the published guidance says
Derby sets different RPL limits for postgraduate certificates, diplomas and master’s awards. It also distinguishes recognition of learning from direct entry to a later stage. An applicant still has to satisfy the requirements of the particular award and any excluded components.
Ask what the decision changes on the study plan
An exemption might remove a particular module from the work you need to complete. It does not necessarily settle the research, independent work or other requirements of a larger award. Keep the award title and the credit decision together when you compare options.
If you already hold a qualification, ask whether the enquiry should concern direct entry instead. A completed earlier award and a claim based on uncertified work learning may need different evidence. Neither should be converted into a new qualification name without an official decision.
An example to think through
A learner may hold a postgraduate certificate and want to continue towards a master’s. The useful questions concern the relationship between the programmes, the learning already completed and what remains. Counting the certificate as if it automatically completed every taught requirement would skip the academic comparison that still needs to happen.
This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.
Three questions to take forward
Which award title and programme am I actually aiming for?
Is this a direct-entry enquiry or an RPL claim?
Which independent or compulsory components must remain in my plan?
Availability, costs and ToHave’s role
Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.
ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
