What the published guidance says

The postgraduate RPIL guide asks for evidence of degree-level capabilities. It lists routes such as recent assessed work, a substantial professional report or critical academic writing, alongside a reflective portfolio. The university reviews whether the evidence meets its requirements.

Show that you can study at the next level

Start with the demands of the intended postgraduate course. Can you read critically, select reliable evidence and explain a conclusion? An account that only lists duties may leave those questions unanswered, even when the duties are demanding.

Keep the outcome precise. Admission through an alternative route does not itself give you the missing first degree, exempt you from a master’s programme or establish professional registration. Ask what the decision would actually record and what assessments would follow after entry.

An example to think through

A practitioner with a substantial work-based report could identify the research question, the sources used and the limits of the conclusion. A preparation review might also reveal that the report describes activity but does not evaluate evidence. That is a reason to seek guidance about academic readiness, rather than adding more certificates to the file.

This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.

Three questions to take forward

1

Which postgraduate course am I seeking entry to?

2

What evidence shows analysis rather than a description of duties?

3

What does an entry decision give me, and what does it not give me?

Availability, costs and ToHave’s role

Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.

ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
