What the published guidance says
Portsmouth’s work-based RPL guidance permits up to two thirds of degree credit through RPL, subject to assessment. The university also describes both bachelor’s and master’s Learning at Work provision. The relevant qualification and approved study programme determine how learning can fit.
Keep credit, level and workload in the same conversation
Two people with similar years in work can have very different learning to demonstrate. One may have substantial earlier academic study; another may have strong practical experience but need to develop an academic explanation of it. Comparing careers alone will not resolve the difference.
For a master’s enquiry, ask what makes the learning appropriate to advanced study. For a bachelor’s enquiry, ask which stages and learning outcomes it could support. In both cases, request a clear account of the modules and projects still required before making financial or time commitments.
An example to think through
A professional might initially assume that a collection of training days would remove a full year of study. A better preparation exercise is to list what each activity taught, how it was assessed and where the evidence is. Some items may support a claim; others may only provide background. The study plan should follow the confirmed result.
This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.
Three questions to take forward
Which qualification and academic level am I actually targeting?
What learning has already been assessed elsewhere?
What modules, projects and assessment would remain after an RPL decision?
Availability, costs and ToHave’s role
Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.
ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
