What the published guidance says

USI’s undergraduate portfolio-review guidance describes lower-level elective credit. It separately describes a professional portfolio that may lead to course-specific credit in limited circumstances. The institution’s portfolio and transfer policies determine how any credit applies to a programme.

Ask where the credit would sit, not just how much

A degree plan has different kinds of requirements. Elective credit can be useful, but it should not be assumed to complete a major, professional requirement or general education course. Write the name of the requirement you hope to satisfy before discussing evidence.

If the answer is that a professional portfolio might be appropriate, ask which learning outcomes it would need to demonstrate. Do not transfer the rules of that route to a general portfolio review. The labels sound similar, but they can lead to different kinds of academic credit.

An example to think through

An experienced professional might already have enough elective credit but still need a particular subject course. More elective hours would not necessarily solve that problem. Checking the remaining degree requirements first can prevent an application that earns recognition yet leaves the main study gap unchanged.

This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.

Three questions to take forward

1

Would this route produce elective credit or a named course equivalent?

2

Which remaining requirement would the credit satisfy?

3

What does my department advise for the specific type of portfolio?

Availability, costs and ToHave’s role

Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.

ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
