What the published guidance says
Cumbria describes RPEL as recognition of learning that has not already received academic credit. It asks applicants to identify relevant learning and discuss the evidence with the course team. Assessment can take different forms, including a portfolio or an interview.
Choose one claim you can explain well
Begin with a specific piece of work rather than your whole career. Write down the problem, the decision you made and the knowledge behind it. Then look at the learning outcomes of the course you have in mind. A connection needs more than a similar job title.
Keep your account separate from the documents that support it. A report shows what you produced; a short explanation shows why it matters. That distinction makes an initial conversation more useful and helps reveal gaps before you assemble a large portfolio.
An example to think through
For example, an operations supervisor might have redesigned a handover process. A useful preparation note would explain the communication problem, compare the options considered and identify what the supervisor learned. A dated process diagram and an authorised manager statement could support that account. These are suggested preparation examples, not documents Cumbria has agreed to accept.
This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.
Three questions to take forward
Which module or learning outcomes could this example address?
Can I show my own contribution rather than a team result?
What needs permission or anonymisation before I share it?
Availability, costs and ToHave’s role
Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.
ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
