What the published guidance says

Cumbria’s entry guidance says recognised prior learning may provide exemption from part of a programme. Its RPEL guidance requires relevance to the intended study and discusses assessment at different academic levels. The course’s own entry and additional requirements still need checking.

Write two short questions, not one big request

The first question is whether you can enter the course. The second is whether particular learning can count within it. Asking for a degree on the strength of a job history mixes those questions and leaves the assessor without a clear claim to consider.

A sensible study plan also records what would remain after any credit decision. Include compulsory study, assessments and practical requirements. Do not turn a possible exemption into a promised graduation date. You need the institution’s confirmed decision before calculating a shorter route.

An example to think through

Imagine someone with earlier college study and recent management training. They can list the assessed college modules separately from the workplace learning. The first group may need transcripts and module information; the second needs an explanation of learning and evidence. Keeping two folders avoids presenting an attendance certificate as university credit.

This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.

Three questions to take forward

1

What are the entry requirements for this exact course?

2

Am I asking about previous assessed study or experiential learning?

3

What study would I still have to complete if credit were awarded?

Availability, costs and ToHave’s role

Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.

ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
