What the published guidance says

Herts distinguishes Accredited Prior Certificated Learning from Accredited Prior Experiential Learning. Formal study is supported by certification and transcripts; experiential claims normally need evidence and reflection linked to relevant outcomes. The university checks the academic level and fit of the learning.

Make two lists before you make one portfolio

Put assessed study on one list and work-based learning on another. For the first, record the provider, date, result and module content. For the second, identify a learning claim, a practical example and something that can verify your contribution.

This prevents a common preparation problem: a large file that contains plenty of material but no clear distinction between a qualification, a short course and a work example. An organised index can also show where you need an original transcript or permission to share an employer document.

An example to think through

A project coordinator may have both a university module in planning and years of coordinating projects. The transcript helps establish the assessed module. A later project review may show additional learning, but the same knowledge should not simply be claimed twice under two headings. Ask how the institution wants overlapping evidence handled.

This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.

Three questions to take forward

1

Which items are formal assessed study and which are experiential?

2

Can the learning be matched to the intended course?

3

Where might two documents be evidence of the same learning?

Availability, costs and ToHave’s role

Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.

ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
