What the published guidance says

Maynooth describes module exemptions mainly in terms of prior formal learning, while admission may consider a wider mix of learning. Its guidance explains that admission, exemptions and possible advanced entry have different processes. Course and professional requirements can limit what is available.

Find the assessed record behind a claim

For a formal learning claim, a certificate title may not tell the whole story. Gather the transcript, module description and evidence of the content and assessment. Those records allow a meaningful comparison with the new module.

Work experience can explain your development, but do not substitute it for an assessed academic record without asking whether that form of evidence can be considered. It is better to receive a clear answer about an appropriate process than to prepare a convincing-looking file for the wrong purpose.

An example to think through

Suppose an applicant completed a university module in research methods and later used research at work. The module record may support an exemption enquiry; the employment example may support a broader account of readiness. Treating the two as identical could obscure what was formally assessed and what still needs evaluation.

This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.

Three questions to take forward

1

Am I applying for entry, exemption or advanced entry?

2

Can I provide the syllabus and transcript for earlier formal study?

3

Does the programme allow this kind of claim at all?

Availability, costs and ToHave’s role

Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.

ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
