What the published guidance says
SUNY Empire uses individualized credit for prior learning to evaluate learning acquired outside traditional college study. Its catalog describes working with a mentor on relevance, level and ways to demonstrate learning. The individualized degree process also includes academic planning and new study.
Use a subject title you can defend
Choose a topic that reflects what you actually know. Explain its ideas, methods and boundaries rather than using a job title as the name of the learning. This helps distinguish knowledge you can discuss in depth from tasks you completed using somebody else’s instructions.
You may discover several potential subjects in one role. Keep them distinct and identify overlap. The aim is to make the scope understandable, not to divide the same learning into several claims with different names. Follow the university’s process for evaluation and avoid assuming that an outside opinion will replace it.
An example to think through
A volunteer coordinator might have learned about recruiting people, planning schedules and resolving disagreements. Those areas need different explanations and supporting examples. A careful preparation note identifies what the learner understands in each area, where the boundaries meet and which evidence can substantiate the account.
This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.
Three questions to take forward
What subject does this experience actually teach me about?
Can I explain the ideas as well as the practical routine?
Am I separating distinct learning or repeating the same claim?
Availability, costs and ToHave’s role
Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.
ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
