What the published guidance says

USI says graduate portfolio review is not available in every programme and needs programme approval. It also sets conditions on timing and on combining portfolio and transfer credit. Graduate portfolio credit and transfer of earlier taught coursework are distinct processes.

Map the decision before paying for preparation

Begin with the graduate programme director’s guidance. Confirm whether portfolio credit is allowed, which requirements it could support and when an application would need to be made. A strong portfolio cannot fix a claim that is outside the programme’s permitted process.

If you also have earlier postgraduate study, keep its transfer evaluation separate. Avoid adding two headline credit allowances together without checking the combined rules. Ask for a clear plan showing which learning is being considered through which route and what study would remain.

An example to think through

A learner may have one earlier postgraduate module and substantial professional learning in a related area. The transcript could support a transfer enquiry; the experience might need another assessment process. Presenting both in a single undifferentiated request could make duplication and programme limits harder to identify.

This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.

Three questions to take forward

1

Does my graduate programme permit portfolio-based PLA?

2

When must the request be made in relation to enrolment and study?

3

How do prior coursework and portfolio credit interact in my programme?

Availability, costs and ToHave’s role

Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.

ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
