What the published guidance says

TESU describes portfolio development for knowledge gained outside the classroom and uses course learning outcomes to focus the claim. Its guidance explains that some practical or culminating course types are unsuitable for portfolio credit. The relevant academic requirements still govern the route.

Turn a broad skill into an assessable subject

A phrase such as “business experience” could describe many different kinds of learning. Narrow it to a subject, identify the ideas you understand and explain how you applied them. The course equivalent gives the narrative a boundary.

A portfolio is not a replacement for doing a required current placement or completing an excluded component. Check suitability before writing. The right preparation may be a smaller, well-supported claim rather than a large account that combines unrelated responsibilities and misses the actual learning outcomes.

An example to think through

A business owner could distinguish learning about project planning from learning about accounting or customer communication. Different evidence would support each subject. Trying to submit every aspect of running the business as one undivided claim may make it difficult to show the scope and level of the learning.

This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.

Three questions to take forward

1

What course-level subject can I explain and evidence?

2

Does the proposed course type allow portfolio assessment?

3

Which records show the theory as well as its application?

Availability, costs and ToHave’s role

Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.

ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
