What the published guidance says
Athabasca describes programme-based portfolios reviewed by multiple assessors and course-based competencies considered by course-content experts. Its guidance says successful PLAR credit is recorded without a letter grade and does not contribute to GPA. The relevant programme determines the potential fit.
Let the assessment question organise the file
A course-focused claim needs to show the learning required for that course. A broader submission may ask you to explain learning across a programme’s criteria. Follow the assigned process rather than copying the layout of a portfolio you found online.
Use a simple evidence index and consistent labels. A reader should be able to move from a claim to a supporting item without searching through unrelated documents. Clear organisation does not guarantee credit, but it avoids making a valid learning account unnecessarily difficult to assess.
An example to think through
A learner might have one strong example of analytical work and another of communication across a team. The examples could serve different competencies. A useful index explains why each belongs in the submission and identifies the person’s contribution, rather than treating both as general proof of a successful career.
This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.
Three questions to take forward
Is my approved submission course-based or programme-based?
Which criterion does each piece of evidence support?
Do I understand how any awarded credit would appear on my academic record?
Availability, costs and ToHave’s role
Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.
ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
