What the published guidance says

RMIT’s credit guidance asks students to discuss suitability with their programme team and prepare evidence meeting the relevant course criteria. It can require further assessment. Its RPL explanation separates the recognition of experience-based learning from recognition of earlier formal study.

Choose evidence you can explain and verify

Use dated examples and identify your own role. A recent work sample may help explain current practice, while an older training record may provide background. If the method, technology or expectations have changed, explain how you kept your knowledge current.

Do not assume the evidence file is the end of the process. A reviewer may need clarification, a demonstration or another assessment. Keep the original records secure and make sure any employer or client material can be shared appropriately. The institution determines what it needs to verify.

An example to think through

Someone applying learning from a technical system used several years ago could explain which underlying principles remain relevant and which practices have changed. A recent example might show how the knowledge was updated. Simply submitting an old completion certificate would leave those questions open.

This is an illustrative preparation example, not a past applicant’s story or an approved assessment outcome.

Three questions to take forward

1

Can I date the evidence and explain my own contribution?

2

How has the subject changed since the original learning?

3

Am I prepared to explain or demonstrate the learning if asked?

Availability, costs and ToHave’s role

Requirements can change with the programme, subject, application date and your own evidence. Check the institution’s current information before relying on a route. Admission, academic credit, a complete qualification and professional registration are different decisions.

ToHave can help organise genuine evidence and support a suitable application where permitted. Our service fee is £100 GBP, payable at the end of the work. Any institution charges and agreed external costs are separate. Read the service conditions and costs. The institution decides the academic outcome; our support does not guarantee approval.
